Do you know how powerful you are?

Are you aware that you have far more agency, impact and influence over your life, your health and your experiences than you’ve been led to believe?

Did you know that the subconscious mind is responsible for over 90% of our day to day actions, reactions, thoughts, emotions and beliefs? 

Our subconscious mind and autonomic nervous system are also running most of the bodily functions like digestion, absorption, heart rate, respiratory rate, metabolic functions like glucose control and insulin sensitivity.

All that being said, we can either choose to be at the effect or at the cause of our subconscious programming and patterns.

We can put our days on repeat, like a real life Groundhog Day. This is what most of us are doing. If we are not consciously choosing, we will wake up feeling the way we did the day before, acting the way we did the day before, reacting the same and on and on it goes.

Or

We can step into our power and learn the tools to reprogram our subconscious and adjust our filters so we can create what we desire and be at cause for our life versus being at the effect of our past conditioning and unconscious habits.

How do we do this?

Neuro-Linguistic Programming shows us that we take in 2.3 million bits of information per second through our senses. But we can only filter for about 126 bits per second. And those filters are set by our subconscious.



Once those 126 bits of information make it past our filters, we then distort, delete or generalize this information based on our nervous system and subconscious programming.  The filters we use actually train our brain to show us only we believe to be true. Our brain will always be scanning for evidence to prove us right. Think the roads are full of angry, horrible drivers?  Guess what you will filter for, find and see? Think getting healthy is hard? You will filter for information that provides evidence for that belief.

The good news is that we can change the filters!

We can adjust the lens, change the filter and start to train our brains to scan for what we want more of in our day to day. The state of our nervous system plays a huge role in this. For example, we can use tools like breathwork to shift our heart rate, respiratory rate and signal safety to our brain. This is in contrast to letting those biomarkers run wild and inform our brain that we are not safe and we should scan for danger. So if we can access the parasympathetic, rest and digest side of the nervous system, we can choose to look for evidence that we are safe. That we can make healthy choices, stick with habits that move us toward our goals by filtering for evidence of that in our environment.

It is important to remember too that the brain can only hear the positive. It does not register the negative.

For example, Do NOT think of a black cat.

So, you just pictured a black cat, didn't you?! Of course you did!

If you have ever mountain biked through trees, you know if you DON'T want to hit a tree, DON'T look at the trees! We have to keep our eyes (ie mind) focused on the path ahead, where we want to go. If we are focused only on where we don't want to go, that's exactly what we will run into. You hit the tree. You have to shift your focus to the path between the trees, focus on where you want to go. This is what we can train our mind to do. Adjust the filter to look for the way forward through the trees.

Learning how to regulate and expand our nervous system to release subconscious programming is the most impactful way to shift these filters and focus on where we want to go. We can then expand our capacity for joy and stress while building resilience. When we can acknowledge our agency and control, we are more empowered to make decisions and implement habits that are in alignment with our goals and values. 

We can create the life we desire.
